Kingsport man charged with second degree murder after deadly shooting

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – A Kingsport man is behind bars tonight after police say he shot and killed a man at an apartment complex Saturday.

Kingsport Police said officers responded to a shooting on Reedy Place around 10:15 p.m. Saturday.

Officers said when they arrived they found the victim, Samuel J. Sturgill, 23, lying in the road.

Police said Sullivan County EMS took Sturgill to Holston Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

ABRAM JEREMIAH AMOSInvestigators said they were able to track down a vehicle matching the description of one leaving the scene to the suspect, Abram Jeremiah Amos, 20.

Amos was charged with Second Degree Murder and was being held at the Kingsport City Jail.

Investigators said the two men knew each other and they do not believe this was a random act of violence.
