WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – A man connected to a woman’s death in a crash more than three years ago learned his fate Thursday morning inside a Washington County, TN courtroom.
Brandon Pickering pleaded guilty to a vehicular homicide and was sentenced to serve 8 years in jail. He’s required to serve one year in jail and 8 years on probation.
Prosecutors said he had a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of .08 and was driving at least 76 mph on May 20, 2012 when he lost control and crashed into a tree on New Victory Road – killing his passenger, Brittany Hankal.
The impact of the wreck severed Hankal’s spinal cord, resulting in her death.
According to a Washington County indictment, Pickering was under the influence of a drug.
Pickering has been ordered to report to jail on September 25.
