CLINTON, TN (WATE) – A former University of Tennessee linebacker was killed in a single vehicle accident early Sunday morning.
“I’m heartbroken and my thoughts and prayers go to his family and his kids,” said Jayson Swain, former teammate and friend of Brooks.
According to the initial investigation, Daniel Brooks, 31, of New Market was traveling westbound when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a driveway, causing the vehicle to become airborne.
Upon landing on its front end, the vehicle flipped several times before coming to a stop on its top, police said.
Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Knox Regional Forensic Center for further investigation.
“It’s crazy to see a brother go,” said Derrick Furlow, another former teammate.
Officers say he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Brooks’s family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. at West Side Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown. A funeral will follow. Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m.
