ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) – A Carter County Grand Jury returned a true bill charging an Elizabethton man with aggravated burglary and aggravated rape.
According to an Elizabethton Police Department news release, officers received a report of a sexual assault that reportedly took place on Aug. 14.
The victim told police that she was acquainted with Chad Matherly, 57, 205 Graham St., because he previously lived in the neighborhood.
According to the release, the victim said she had contacted Matherly after his mail was delivered to his former address and she told him he could pick up the mail.
When Matherly arrived at the victim’s home, she handed him the mail through a partially opened door, he asked to come inside the home and she refused to let him inside.
According to the release, Matherly reportedly forced entry into the home and then raped the victim.
A Carter County Grand Jury returned a true bill in the case, charging Matherly with aggravated burglary and aggravated rape.
He was arrested on Wednesday and taken to the Carter County Jail, where he was being held on $100,000 bond.
