Candlelight vigil for Kentucky State Trooper

RADCLIFF, KY (CNN) – Several people gathered Wednesday night at North Hardin High School in Racliff, Kentucky to remember a fallen State Trooper.

Family and friends came together for a candlelight vigil at the high school where Joseph Cameron Ponder graduated in 2002.

Ponder was fatally shot after a traffic stop and chase late Sunday night.

The suspect, Joseph Johnson Shanks, was fatally shot by police after he pointed a gun at officers.

Ponder was 31 years old, and engaged to be married.

In January, he joined the State Police.

His stepfather said he was adamant about becoming a State Trooper after his time in the Navy.

Ponder’s funeral takes place tomorrow morning.

He will be buried with military honors at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery.
