JOHNSON CITY, TN — Four days from now, the ETSU football team snaps a streak of 4,302 days without a game for the Blue and Gold. That day, November 22, 2003, they went out with a tearful win.
This time, they hope for more of the same.
The Bucs hit the field Sunday afternoon to officially start a game week, the first game week nearly all of these players have had since high school.
They took the day off Saturday, but Coach Carl Torbush’s team got after it Sunday, and you can tell there’s something special on their minds.
“You never thought it would actually get here, and it’s here now,” said ETSU Quarterback Austin Herink. “I think we’re all excited, and it’s just one of those things where it’s time to put up or shut up with all the work we’ve put in, and we’re ready to display it on the field.”
Wide Receiver Drake Powell added, “It’s going to get to you. It is game week. It’s a different kind of week than the past however many. There are 600 days, so do the math there. I try not to let it get to me, but it is a different week, and there is a little more hype and a little more pep in everybody’s step this week.”
