Johnson City Police warning of phone scam in Tri-Cities

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Johnson City Police Department is warning folks in the Tri-Cities about a phone scam where the caller poses as a law enforcement officer.

According to the police department, the caller claims to be a “Deputy Beasley” with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and tells the victim they have an outstanding warrant. The caller then tells the victim to load $1,000 onto a pre-paid card to clear the warrant.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said there is no “Deputy Beasley” in their department.

JCPD said people across Northeast Tennessee have reported getting similar calls from the same local number (423) 223-9598.

If you are contacted by someone at this number, you’re asked to call your local law enforcement agency.
