NEW YORK (CNN) – The manhunt for two escaped killers in New York came with a large price tag.
The twenty-three day search for Dave Sweat and Richard Matt cost State Police, and the corrections department about $1 million per day, according to comptroller records.
The inmates escaped the Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6th.
Matt was shot and killed on June 26th.
Sweat was shot and captured two days later.
The Vermont State Police also aided in the search efforts, and they say they spent more than $84,000 in overtime costs.
Prison worker Joyce Mitchell pleaded guilty to helping the men escape.
In September, Mitchell is set to be sentenced.
