HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Rogersville man on charges of soliciting a person under the age of 18.
According to a HCSO report, a man reported on July 6 that his 17-year-old daughter was being approached by Eric Aaron Byrd, 26, 716 Melinda Ferry Road.
Detectives spoke with the man’s daughter, who said she had been communicating with Byrd through Facebook, and he had told her he loved her.
The girl told detectives that Byrd was always trying to get her to meet him somewhere.
According to the report, detectives got permission from the man and his daughter to use the 17-year-old’s Facebook account to communicate with Byrd and they interacted with him on several occasions.
On Aug. 11, Byrd said he wanted to meet the girl somewhere and then go to his home where they could engage in sexual intercourse.
A meeting spot and time was originally set up at Rogersville City Park, but was changed to Melinda Ferry Boat ramp.
Detectives arrested Byrd at the boat ramp and charged with solicitation of a person under the age of 18 years of age.
