Jonesborough man arrested for burglarizing Johnson City home

WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Jonesborough man on theft, burglary and drug charges Thursday, following a traffic stop.

According to a WCSO news release, deputies were called to a home on Matson Road in Johnson City in reference to a burglary.

When they arrived at the home, the homeowner said someone had broken into her home by prying open her back door. She gave deputies a description of the suspect and his vehicle.

Tony Whitehead, 35, 109 Dry Creek Road, was stopped a short time later during a traffic stop on Huffine Road, where deputies found the victim’s belongings in Whitehead’s vehicle, as well as drugs and other drug paraphernalia.

Whitehead was arrested and charged with theft, aggravated burglary, simple possession, unlawful drug paraphernalia and driving while license is suspended or revoked.

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $30,000 bond.

Whitehead was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court Thursday at 9 a.m.
