JOHNSON CITY (WJHL) – Contrary to some popular mythology, most slaves were not particularly happy to be enslaved. Some even rebelled. Perhaps most notable was a young firebrand preacher named Nat Turner, who led a rebellion that sent shockwaves through the antebellum South. Al Brophy of the University of North Carolina’s law school tells us this violent, hopeful and disturbing tale.
