ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Tusculum College football team has been picked to finish fifth in the South Atlantic Conference according to the 2015 SAC Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Monday.
The Pioneers received 30 total points in a vote of the league’s eight head football coaches.
Tusculum returns 51 lettermen, including 12 starters from last year’s 6-5 squad that finished third in the conference standings. TC rebounded from a 1-4 start to the year by winning five of its last six contests, including a four-game winning streak to end the season.
Lenoir-Rhyne is the favorite to win this year’s league title as the Bears received 55 points, including six first-place votes. L-R edged out Carson-Newman, who picked up 51 points and two first place nods.
Newberry is third in the SAC poll with 39 points, followed by Catawba (37), Tusculum, Mars Hill (27), Wingate (27) and Brevard (14).
Tusculum kicks off its 2015 campaign on Saturday, Sep. 5 when the Pioneers travel to UVA-Wise for a 7 p.m. contest.
