BRISTOL, TN — When the season came to an end late Saturday night, the Tri-Cities Thunder women’s football team was experiencing something it never had…a loss.
The first year team spent the season breaking records and beating all comers, but it couldn’t do it one more time, losing to Memphis, 46-30, in the Southern Conference title game at Tennessee High’s Stone Castle.
The Legacy now advance to the national tournament.
The Thunder led 8-6 after the 1st Quarter, but Memphis took over from there, building a 27-16 advantage late in the 3rd Quarter.
That’s when Tri-Cities fought back. They switched the offense to a Meagan Lyons keeper attack, and she delivered taking a quarterback end around to the end zone on the first play of back-to-back drives and putting the Thunder up, 30-27.
From there it was all Legacy, as they score 19 more points to take the win.
Tri-Cities broke the league’s scoring record in racking up an impressive one loss record in the team’s first year.
