UT football legacies important to current and past players

KNOXVILLE, TN — We’re a day away from talking season. at least that’s what Steve Spurrier likes to call it. SEC Media Days kick off in Birmingham Monday, so let’s prep with a little look in at our own Tennessee Volunteers.

As Butch Jones rebuilds this program, one thing you notice are the legacy players involved. Todd Kelly, Jr.’s dad was a Vol, Dillon Bates’ dad was a Vol, and the Berry twins had their older brother, Eric, in Orange and White.

That’s one thing about being a Vol that Jones has really attached to. This is a true fraternity, and the older guys are glad to see it play out like this.

“Having Dillon, my last son, being at Tennessee, it is coming home for me, and I’m with family,” said former All-SEC safety Bill Bates. All these guys and women, they know me, and they’ve helped me to get success and have success. Now it’s hopefully that I’m helping others achieve what they want to achieve.”

The Vols arrive at SEC Media Days on Tuesday, so expect plenty of coverage from them. They’ll be represented by Coach Jones, Josh Dobbs, Curt Maggitt and Cam Sutton.
