Appy League West goes 5-3 on busy Sunday

The Bristol Pirates picked, and Greeneville Astros went a combined 3-0 Sunday, leading the way for the Appalachian League’s West division to finish a 5-3 Sunday.

The Pirates had to come from behind twice and did so successfully, beating Princeton 4-3 in 10 innings and 7-6 in the nightcap.

The Greeneville Astros had just one hit against Danville, but that was enough, winning 1-0 against the Braves.

The Johnson City Cardinals rallied with a 3-run, 8th inning home run, beating Burlington, 8-7, in game one before falling 6-1 in the later game.

Elizabethton did the opposite, losing to Pulaski 6-2 in the day’s first game before a 4-run 5th inning turned into a 4-0 win late.

Finally, the Kingsport Mets continued their ridiculous series with Bluefield. The Mets entered the 9th inning leading 4-0, but the Blue Jays erupted for 7 runs, leading 7-4. Kingsport rallied for 3 to force extra innings, but the Jays won in 10, 8-7.
