With controversy over the confederate flag building across the country, some folks in the Tri-Cities wanted to show their support for the flag, and flew it proudly through Elizabethton Saturday.
Folks rallied together at the Ingles parking lot. Trucks and cars decorated with confederate flags lined up and paraded through town.
Organizers posted about the rally on Facebook, and quickly had dozens of participants.
“I just got together cause they’re tryin’ to take our flag, and we have a right to our flag. It’s nothin’ ’bout hate or racism, its all about heritage and our rights to own this flag,” said George Williams, who organized the rally.
Some lawmakers across the country are urging for states to remove the confederate flag from government buildings, license plates, and other government property, saying it’s a symbol that promotes racism.
