Let’s. Get. Jurassic. That will be the roar heard from Cardinal Park as the Johnson City Cardinals host the first ever “Jurassic World Night” on Saturday, June 27th.
With the release of Jurassic World set for June 12th, the Cardinals will pay homage to the upcoming summer blockbuster from Universal Studios by wearing one of a kind dinosaur themed jerseys during their game. Jurassic World is the fourth installment in the popular Jurassic Park series, dating back to the debut in 1993.
“We are thrilled to announce this awesome promotion and feature one of the wildest jerseys in Minor League Baseball history,” added Johnson City General Manager Tyler Parsons. “We can’t thank Universal Studios enough for working with us to make this possible, and we are thrilled to partner with a franchise that has captured people’s imagination for years. This will be a special night for our fans, and we can’t wait to see everyone out at Cardinal Park!”
While the jerseys will be spotlighted, they are far from the only festivity going on during the night. There will be dinosaurs featured throughout the park, there will be a dinosaur egg hunt for children, and the first 3,000 fans will receive a special Jurassic World poster. After the game, a fossil hunt will take place in the infield, with a grand prize going to the individual who finds the fossil.
The Cardinals will also partner with the Gray Fossil Site and Museum to bring fossil displays, exhibits and games for all ages. Paleontologists will also be on hand to offer their expert opinions and answer any questions for fans.
Following the game, the special dinosaur jerseys will be auctioned off, with all of the proceeds going directly to the Gray Fossil Site and Museum.
“As huge fans of the Jurassic Park franchise, we are elated to be included in Jurassic World Night,” said Dr. Blaine Schubert, museum director. We are so appreciative to be recipients of the jersey auction proceeds, and we plan on keeping true to the theme by using it for fossil-related educational programming.”
The Gray Fossil Site and Museum opened in 2007 and continually showcases the 5-million-year-old site and its unique ecosystem. Visitors are invited to observe live excavations in May through October. There are also many special events held at the Museum, such as the monthly “Speaker Series,” “Fossil & Artifact ID Nights” every other month, and many ongoing youth programs.
The Johnson City Cardinals will begin their 2015 home season on Thursday, June 25th when they take on the Kingsport Mets.
