VSP investigating three reports of vehicle fires in Washington Co.

The Virginia State Police is investigating three vehicle fires reported in Washington County late Tuesday night.

According to a VSP news release, the first vehicle fire happened at Performance Motors on Route 11 in Bristol and VSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation – Wytheville Field Office was called in to investigate around 10:30 p.m.

Approximately 30 minutes later, VSP was notified of a second vehicle fire at Auto Repair Shop, on Green Springs Church Road in Abingdon, Va.

The third vehicle fire was reported at Ralph Smith Auto Sales on Jeb Stuart Highway in Damascus, Va., around 12:16 a.m. Wednesday, where two other vehicles had minor damage following the fire.

According to the release, investigators believe the three fires were intentionally set based on preliminary information and they are still investigating.

No injuries were reported and property damage is estimated to be $14,000.
