JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 23, 2015) – The ETSU volleyball team will send two of its players overseas this summer to compete in the 2015 European Global Challenge, hosted by Bring It Promotion (BIP) July 8-18 in Pula, Croatia.
ETSU rising juniors Kristen Favre (Plano, Texas) and Renzey Rice (Johnson City, Tenn.) were named to the BIP-Southeastern U22 team, which consists of 12 players from NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions. Favre is one of two setters on the team, while Rice is one of two liberos.
Prior to playing in the European Global Challenge, the team will travel to Falconara, Italy for three days of training sessions and friendly matches against A.S. BFTM Falconara Juniors (2013 & 2012 Global Challenge champions). From July 13-16, the team will compete in the 2015 European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia, featuring seven teams from the United States, junior national teams from Hungary, Israel, and Italy, and elite women’s club teams from Slovenia and Italy.
This marks the fourth straight year ETSU will be represented in the European Global Challenge as Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) and Khadijah Wiley (Columbus, Ga.) played in 2014, while Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.), Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.), Jessica Schafer (Dekalb, Ill.) went in 2013. Head coach Lindsey Devine began ETSU’s run by coaching in the European Global Challenge back in 2012.
