Multiple on-line reports that two New York prison escapees are in the Tri-Cities are not true, a local Chief Deputy told News Channel 11 Tuesday night.
Inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt escaped from a maximum security prison in Dannemora, NY Friday night or early Saturday.
Police describe them as extremely dangerous.
Tuesday night, state and federal law enforcement officers were searching 30 miles southeast of the Northern New York prison where two murderers escaped.
But Carter County Chief Deputy James Parrish said a woman from Mitchell County, North Carolina, claimed she saw the men in Roan Mountain.
Parrish says after his office investigated the tip and talked with police in New York, he’s convinced the men are not in this area. And Parrish said the men don’t have ties to the Tri-Cities.
