NC church offers parish house to whoever can move it

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (AP) – A North Carolina church is offering a free house to anyone interested in moving and preserving it.

The StarNews of Wilmington reports that St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Southport is looking for someone to move the Parkhill House that is now used for parish offices.

The parish has been trying to give the house away since last winter.

The house was built in 1886 and the parish says it’s important to both town and church history. The church hopes someone interested in historic preservation may want it but so far there have been no takers.

It’s estimated it would cost between $20,000 and $80,000 to move the house, depending on the mover. The house would also require some fixing up to be livable.
