The Niswonger Children’s Hospital Golf Classic has added four more celebrities to the tournament lineup, including University of Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones.
The event is set for Monday, June 29, at The Virginian Golf Club in Bristol, Va. The latest additions to the lineup include Jones; former NFL standouts Jim Stuckey and Todd “TK” Kelly, Sr.; and pro golfer Len Mattiace.
The tournament, which benefits the region’s only children’s hospital, once again has a stellar lineup of celebrities, including NFL greats Jason Witten, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and Emmitt Smith, among many others.
In conjunction with the golf tournament, a benefit concert featuring The Beach Boys will take place at Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Greeneville, Tenn., on Sunday, June 28, the night before the golf tournament.
Jones is the popular second-year head coach at UT who led the Vols to a 45-28 win over Iowa in the TaxSlayer Bowl last season, their first bowl victory since 2007.
Kelly, a defensive end, was a Tennessee Vols standout in the early 1990s and played in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. Last year he was named to the SEC 2014 Football Legends Class. His son, Todd Kelly Jr., currently plays for the Vols. Stuckey was a Clemson University All-America defensive tackle and first-round draft pick who was a member of two Super Bowl championship teams for the 49ers in the 1980s.
Mattiace, a Wake Forest golfing great, is a member of the PGA Tour and Web.com Tour and won the Nissan Open and FedEx St. Jude Classic PGA tournaments in 2002, and was second in the Masters Tournament in 2003.
Singer Darius Rucker as well as a host of former University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech standouts are among the celebrities expected to participate. A limited number of slots are still available for golfers. For more information, call the Mountain States Foundation at 423-302-3131.
The Beach Boys concert on June 28 offers three types of tickets: $100 and $150, depending on seating, and a VIP ParTee ticket that includes special seating plus a pre-concert reception with the golf tournament celebrities. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. (Please note: The Beach Boys will not be attending the VIP reception, only the celebrity golfers for the golf classic the following day.)
