The Washington Co./Johnson City Animal Shelter is preparing for the move into a brand new facility next week. The shelter is going to be closed from Wednesday, June 10 thru Sunday, June 14 for the move. Shelter Director Debbie Dobbs says it’s going to be a very busy week, “We’re gonna be moving the heavy stuff next Thursday and Friday, we have a lot of cleaning and preparation to do here of the stuff we are taking over to the new facility. We want everything to be sanitized, cleaned and done so that we don’t have to do anything over there.”
They will be moving the cats first, then the dogs as cats are much easier to move. Dobbs is asking people to hold off brining animals to the shelter next week, if they are able to, “We’re still accepting animals, because we can’t exactly turn them away. But we would prefer if anybody has any animals to drop off, to please wait until we open the new facility to bring them.”
The shelter is also looking for help in the move. They need pet taxis and crates for use in the move as well as volunteers with trucks, SUVs and trailers. Dobbs says be patient during the process, “we will be needing help, just be patient with us on setting up times because you can never just put a move in concrete when it comes to moving animals. So we want to make sure we have all our ducks in a row and everything right for the animals before we get them over there.”
Just call the shelter at 423-926-8769 is you would like to volunteer to help with the move.
