A popular boat festival changed locations due to low water levels at Boone lake.

The 10th annual Dragon Boat festival will be held at Warriors’ Path State Park in Kingsport this year, rather than Winged Deer Park in Johnson City.

Because of the location change, organizers tells us they can only accommodate 40 teams,  rather than up to 60 like in years past.

We’re told officials did test the boats in Boone before determining a change in venue was needed.

“We had the owner from Dragon Boat East from Nova Scotia Canada come down to look at the lake and realized it was a little narrow to get the boats in, to turn around, and there is a current. It’s a little hard to paddle with those boats. We visited lakes, and looked at the land around the lakes and realized Warriors’ Path was the best opportunity for everything we needed,” said Marsha Hammond.

Registration is already open, as of right now, seven teams have registered to participate.

The Dragon Boat Festival takes place August 29th.
