Construction on a new facility marks the beginning of a new era at Barter Theatre.
Barter officials recently announced that they began construction on a brand new prop shop,
“It’s the first new footprint for Barter in many many years. It’s not just an expansion of where they are it’s an actual new building,” said Barter Theatre Advancement Director Katherine Foreman.
Barter officials began raising funds for the project back in 2008 and Foreman told News Channel 11 that the theatre capital campaign is within $1 million dollars of fulfilling its campaign goal.
Foreman said since 1992, attendance has grown from 42,000 theatre patrons a year to more than 160,000.
“We can’t continue to do what we do unless we are able to attract and retain extremely talented people and giving them a proper workspace is a part of that,” said Foreman.
Theatre officials said the new prop shop should be open by Fall 2015 just in time for the holiday play season.
