  Willa Coggins is the mother of two elementary aged daughters so she knows the importance of education. ” It gets them interested in reading. It’s fun to come and listen to stories.”
     That’s why she’s been a part of the Washington County Summer Reading Program for nine years. “it helps them continue to ready so they don’t forget what they’ve learned”
     Carey Deyton is in her 3rd hear as the program coordinator “the biggest thing is they learn to  love to read”
     350 children, toddler to 5th grade are enrolled this year. The program titled “fizz, Boom, Read” is complete with a science experiment. “we get to explode things, it’s big for common core because of the emphasis on non-fiction reading”
    And on this day, a story from International Story Teller, Willie Claflin.  .
   The program is free to families. The Washington County library raises nearly $4,000.00 to fund it each year.  “the program is completely dependant on private donations”
    A small investment to ensure families like the Coggins’ have a lifetime love of reading.

“our goal this year is 9,000 books”
