Thomas Hager announces his candidacy for the
Johnson City School Board in the April 23, 2013 city election.

My main
objective in seeking re-election is based on the belief that we must continue
to provide a quality education for all student. Academic achievement, school
safety, staff development, and technology will be my focus areas of improvement
for this four year term. “Children are our future. The quality of our future
depends on the quality of our educational leadership. Being an advocate for all
students is most important. We face astounding challenges to fund the
educational needs going forward. We should continue to strive for excellence in
education in Johnson City. I believe the board's responsibility is to see that
teachers have the support they need to enable students to be productive
citizens by providing the necessary resources and a progressive learning

Hager has served on the Johnson City School Board since 1983. He has served as
Chairman of the Board from 1987 -1989 and from 1991 -2002. During the 1989-1990
he served as Vice-Chairman. He has served as the Northeast District Director for
the Tennessee school Board Association. Tom has been recognized by the Tennessee
School Board Association Boardmanship Program as a Level V Master School Board
member. Three time Hager has received a Distinguished Service Award from the National
School Board Association.

A lifelong Johnson City resident, Tom Hager is a graduate of Science Hill High
School and the University of Tennessee, where he earned a bachelor's degree in
education. Hager is also a Vietnam War Army veteran and is employed as an investigator
for the District Public Defenders Office in Washington, Carter, Johnson, and
Unicoi Counties.
