Investigation into accident that killed four-year-old is ongoing today

UPDATE 10/12 11 a.m.

This morning, Elizabethton’s traffic accident reconstruction team was back at the scene of accident that killed a four-year-old boy.

We found a make-shift memorial for Joshua Holston near the intersection of Broad Street and Lynn Avenue today.

Police say around 1:20 yesterday afternoon, Tiffani Holston was in the crosswalk on  Broad Street with her two boys when little Joshua ran into the path of a dump truck turning onto broad street from Lynn Avenue.

Joshua was taken to Sycamore Shoals Hospital, but later died as a result of his injuries.

Police identified the dump truck driver as Terry Kyte of Bristol, Tennessee.

The investigation is still ongoing.


UPDATE 3:01 p.m.

According to officials with the Elizabethton Police Department, this afternoon a dump truck was turning left onto Lynn Avenue from Broad Street in Elizabethton. When he turned, the driver had a green arrow from the traffic light.

At the same time, two children went across the crosswalk on Broad Street. The older child made it across the street, but the driver did not see the younger child and hit him.

The child was a four-year-old boy who was transported to Sycamore Shoals, where he was pronounced dead.

The Elizabethton Police Department are still investigating the incident.


UPDATE 2:54 p.m.

Elizabethton Police confirm that the four-year-old hit by the truck has now died.


Police are on the scene in Elizabethton where a dump truck has hit what witnesses describe as a “young boy.” The child apparently ran away from his mother into the path of the truck

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. at the Corner of Broad and Lynn Avenue.

We do not know the extent of the child’s injuries at this time.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the commercial vehicle and its driver while the Elizabethton Police Department is handing the investigation into how the child was hit.
